A tiny plot is stretched beyond breaking point in this interminably dull and slow-paced disaster movie in which a prospective new power source has deadly repercussions. Favouring unnecessary padding over character and story development, the cut-down TV mini-series ends up mainly talk and no drama, as boffins Steven Weber and Christina Cox seem to bore even themselves with their dry and incessant pseudo-science, while their clichéd bad-guy boss Treat Williams prepares to launch their knowingly dangerous project to harvest dark energy from space. Over-used shots of agitated keyboard tapping and excessively gloomy visuals compound the lack of excitement, and leave you desperate for the last-act destruction to begin. Sadly, this too is seriously underwhelming, suffering from emotional emptiness and very un-special effects that turn potential Armageddon into little more than a second-rate light show.
