Review

A star rating of 4 out of 5.

Inspired by real events, Driven depicts the remarkable downfall of visionary car designer John DeLorean, the man who created the iconic, gull-winged sports car featured in Back to the Future. However, the film's main character is Jim Hoffman, a former drug smuggler working as an FBI informant. When DeLorean needs money, Hoffman involves him in a lucrative drug deal. What could go wrong? Hoffman is a slippery character with questionable morals, but, as played by Jason Sudeikis, he always remains likeable and endearing. Co-star Lee Pace is magnetic and unknowable as DeLorean, portraying him as a charismatic showman and a tough, uncompromising businessman. Both characters are interesting, and their friendship is at the core of the film, which tells an enjoyable story about betrayal, ambition and the coolest car in the history of Hollywood. It all adds up to a fun and entertaining ride.
