Review

A star rating of 3 out of 5.

From War of the Worlds producer George Pal, this paranoid parable about Earth's imminent collision with a runaway planet - the only hope of survival being a Noah's Ark expedition to a satellite moon - is a prime example of 1950s science fiction. Compensating for the bland script and generally uninspired cast are the Oscar-winning special effects - especially the destruction of New York - and Rudolph Maté's arresting direction, which exploits the "end of the world" concept to the maximum.
