Review

A star rating of 3 out of 5.

Clint Eastwood composes the music (with Lennie Niehaus), directs and stars in this well-paced tale of high-level corruption. Clint plays master burglar Luther Whitney, who, while robbing a supposedly impregnable mansion, witnesses President Gene Hackman indulging in a sadistic sex act that leads to the death of a rich man's wife. Whitney and his estranged daughter (Laura Linney) must then stay one step ahead of the police and the president's men. Credibility is the main casualty of the piece, but William Goldman's taut script is well realised by thoughtful direction and the high-calibre cast.
