Review

A star rating of 3 out of 5.

Nicknamed "Black America's Attorney General", civil lawyer Benjamin Crump vows to hold to account those who "continue to kill black people unjustly". Consequently, he is regarded as dangerous by right-wingers and their media outlets. In following Crump during 2020-21, Nadia Hallgren's fly-on-the-wall documentary shows the sacrifice he makes for the cause in spending lengthy periods away from his wife and daughter in the company of a bodyguard. Crump's pursuit of justice for the families of murder victims like Trayvon Martin, Breonna Taylor and George Floyd has made him a household name, but he also dedicates himself to redressing corporate malpractice against black workers. He's a slick operator, exuding decency and determination. But Hallgren's awed focus is so narrow that the wider issues about why these tragedies and grievances keep happening rather blur into the background.
