Review

A star rating of 3 out of 5.

A young woman is haunted by the sister who disappeared two years earlier in a tantalising thriller with echoes of both Don't Look Now and The Vanishing. Waif-like Shirley Henderson presents a figure of both vulnerability and determination as the sibling who picks up where the police left off in their enquiries. Her obsession leads her to steal a security camera video and retrace her sister's movements in an atmosphere of mounting dread. Like Don't Look Now, director Juliet McKoen's debut feature plays with notions of the afterlife. But, while Nicolas Roeg's classic supernatural drama is set against the romantic waterscape of Venice, McKoen's story unfolds on a grey, cold and uninviting stretch of Morecambe Bay that helps to at least ground the mystery. And, although the story sags a little in the middle, there's still enough going on to keep the audience's curiosity well and truly piqued.
