Black comedy drama, based on a true story, starring Julie Walters and Rupert Graves. Dorset, 1954: young Australian Harold Guppy moves in to the seemingly respectable home of the Beasley family, but Mrs Beasley has her eye on the handsome lodger - as does her 14-year-old daughter, Joyce. The tensions in the household gradually lead to more dangerous emotions.
This 1950s-set drama lifts the lid on the lusty bedroom antics of the supposedly staid British. Rupert Graves stars as sailor Harold Guppy, who takes a room as a boarder in the home of the seemingly normal Beasley family. It's not long before Mrs Marjorie Beasley (a great, almost sinister turn from Julie Walters) and her teenage daughter are vying for his horizontal affections, and hapless Harold finds himself out of his depth. Writer/director Philip Goodhew's debut feature is quirky and engrossing fare with a very dark edge.
