Review

A star rating of 2 out of 5.

ER star Goran Visnjic gets out of his depth in more ways than one in this muddled but atmospheric psychological thriller from Photographing Fairies director Nick Willing. Visnjic plays a London-based hypnotherapist with unsettling psychic abilities, who joins forces with a female detective (a miscast Shirley Henderson) to hunt a serial child killer. Stilted acting and a mess of scary movie clichés follow, as the disjointed plotline lurches from unrealistic to just plain silly. The director seems unsure whether he's making a dark supernatural chiller or a simple cop procedural drama, and the lack of focus dilutes the overall impact. Still, the profusion of themes keeps things intriguing, while surreal visuals add a genuine air of unease.
