Review

A star rating of 2 out of 5.

Occasionally, films get better performances than they deserve. Here it's Karen Allen and Keith Carradine who rise above the predictable plotting of a thriller that's nowhere near as cute as it thinks it is. Both as schemer and victim, Allen is pretty convincing, although her plan to bump off husband Jeff Fahey and share his loot with lover Dean Paul Martin is Gruyère-like in its feasibility. Things perk up a bit when stranger Keith Carradine gives her a taste of her own hallucinogenic medicine, but Gilbert Cates's direction is too deliberate to give the film the flexibility to spring any genuine surprises.
