Rodgers and Hammerstein: the Sound of Movies
- Kevin Burns
- 96 mins
Having already scored several hits with the late Lorenz Hart (a partnership celebrated in the biopic Words and Music), Richard Rodgers was to achieve even greater success in collaboration with Oscar Hammerstein II. Narrated by Shirley Jones (who starred in the 1956 version of Carousel) and featuring interviews with Julie Andrews (The Sound of Music) and Rita Moreno (The King and I), this documentary portrait focuses on the screen adaptations of the Broadway shows, as opposed to their working methods. But there are plenty of backstage insights and clips from such classics as State Fair, Oklahoma! and Flower Drum Song.
