Review

A star rating of 2 out of 5.

More interesting today for its cast than its content, this dates from the period when Universal reverted to producing programme westerns to show off young talent. Here, given some scale by the use of Technicolor and Techniscope, James Caan gets a crack at a leading role, seeking Confederate glory but discovering only the horrors of civil war alongside Michael Sarrazin and Don Stroud. The episodic, rambling narrative suggests some production interference along the way, and veteran TV director William Hale soon returned to the small screen. Keep your eyes peeled for novice Harrison Ford in an early movie role.
