Comedy starring Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy as a pair of gypsy scoundrels who unwittingly become the guardians of the kidnapped daughter of a count.
Not even the great Laurel and Hardy can lift the spirits of this damp adaptation of the operetta by Michael Balfe, about gypsies who, in revenge, kidnap a nobleman's daughter and bring her up as one of their own. Stan and Ollie are snatch-purses, not that it matters much. Their gags disappear in the banal and confused plot, and they look as embarrassed as audiences feel. This was the last film of their regular co-star Thelma Todd, who made 40 films and died of carbon monoxide poisoning just after this film was completed.
