Musical comedy starring Whoopi Goldberg as Las Vegas singer Deloris Van Cartier, who is persuaded once again to don the habit and help some of her nun friends save their run-down school from closure.
Whoopi Goldberg returns here as Las Vegas cabaret singer Deloris, who dons her Sister Mary Clarence habit to teach music to a bad-attitude class at a run-down high school. Goldberg delivers the good-education/family-values/follow-your-dream messages with likeable charm, even if the familiar concept is treated in a heavy-handed fashion by director Bill Duke. The chorus nuns from the original film are also disappointingly relegated to mere background this time around. Still, the musical sequences are lively and Maggie Smith gives her usual sterling support as Mother Superior.
