Review

A star rating of 3 out of 5.

There's nothing Technicolor about the coat in this TV-movie retelling of the Old Testament story about the dreaming Israelite who shakes off the shackles of slavery to become Pharaoh's right-hand man. Strictly Ballroom star Paul Mercurio plays Joseph with typical brio, particularly relishing the scenes with Ben Kingsley as the scheming Potiphar. Everywhere you look there is a familiar face, with Warren Clarke, Lesley Ann Warren and Dominique Sanda turning in creditable performances. However, the stand-out performance comes from Martin Landau as the elderly Jacob. A little glossy, perhaps, but far superior to the previous renditions by Irving Rapper and Michael Cacoyannis.
