Review

A star rating of 3 out of 5.

Think of the spaghetti western genre and Sergio Leone will always spring to mind. After his early successes, plenty of other Italian directors jumped on the bandwagon, and this effort from Damiano Damiani is among the better efforts. Having played alongside Clint Eastwood in For a Few Dollars More, Gian Maria Volonté and Klaus Kinski headline this tale of a bandit chief who becomes embroiled in a plot to assassinate a revolutionary leader. Damiani instils the violence with a probing moral concern, and creates plenty of tension between the moments of introspection and exuberance.
