Review

A star rating of 4 out of 5.

The third and apparently final film to be adapted from Cressida Cowell's popular book series is as visually sumptuous, fast-paced and fun as the first two instalments. The story finds our hero Hiccup (voiced by Jay Baruchel), his fellow Vikings and their "pet" dragons coming up against a vicious dragonslayer who wants Toothless dead. A subplot about dragon courtship rituals - a beguiling mix of ballet and slapstick - furnishes the film with some of its most fun moments, while the starry voice cast finds Cate Blanchett and Gerard Butler joined by F Murray Abraham as the villain of the piece. Aside from some modest threat and peril, this is terrific family fare, and should appeal to all but the most sensitive of little souls.
