Review

A star rating of 3 out of 5.

An oddball thriller and unsuccessful TV pilot that never quite manages to find its feet, although star Mare Winningham acts the socks off hers trying. Winningham is a private investigator new to the job who decides to become chummy with a prime murder suspect in the hope of trapping him. It's a familiar theme and unfortunately this film fails to supply anything new. The story was based on the true experiences of celebrated Houston investigator Kim Paris, a woman of some respect and notoriety among her peers, and the general consensus was that True Betrayal did not do her or the genre justice.
