Review

A star rating of 2 out of 5.

The last entry in the comedy cop series to be completed by writer/director Jean Girault (who died while shooting The Gendarme Wore Skirts ) borrows its premise from Invasion of the Body Snatchers in order to both exploit and satirise the vogue for all things interstellar in the wake of Star Wars. However, the action is utterly reliant on broad slapstick, as the bungling Louis De Funès assaults the cream of St Tropez in a bid to expose some oil-swilling aliens with a gift for impersonation who seem set to take over the Riviera. The script is weak, but the cast is willing.
