Let's be honest: this horrendously overlong biopic of composer Edvard Grieg has precious little going for it, except for the magnificent Scandinavian locations. Otherwise, one-time talented director Andrew L Stone has assembled a motley cast, including Edward G Robinson and Harry Secombe, to surround the woefully ill-equipped Toralv Maurstad (who?) in this supremely uninteresting saga. Lyrics were added to Grieg's greatest hits by Robert Wright and George Forrest, a team that had achieved greater success in 1955 with the music of Borodin in Kismet. This movie was successful enough, however, and led to Stone's even worse follow-up, The Great Waltz, in 1972.
