Review

A star rating of 3 out of 5.

Set after the apocalypse, this thoughtful drama asks what truly matters when all is lost. Margot Robbie plays a young woman living in a remote valley, whose world is changed by two strangers. Robbie enjoys an intriguingly complicated relationship with Chiwetel Ejiofor, playing a man who values science over faith, while Chris Pine stirs tensions effectively as a mysterious late arrival. Director Craig Zobel keeps the focus on the three characters and the choices they make, with religion, romance and loyalty all explored. Director Craig Zobel (Compliance) takes his time getting to a surprisingly abrupt conclusion that may leave some feeling cheated. However, it's rare to find a post-apocalypse movie like this that actually has something to say.
