Review

A star rating of 3 out of 5.

Seven years after making The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms, Eugène Lourié came to Britain for what turned out to be his swansong. This highly derivative film has borrowed from so many other monster movies that it is almost as much fun spotting the swipes (mostly from King Kong and the Godzilla series) as it is watching the picture itself. Special effects boffin Tom Howard's creatures are the sweetest rampaging dinosaurs you will ever see, and the model London landmarks trampled by Mrs Gorgo are risible. Bill Travers and William Sylvester manage to keep admirably straight-faced as this eminently enjoyable tosh unfolds around them.
