Review

A star rating of 1 out of 5.

It was unlucky 13 for Arthur Lucan as his series of drag comedies began to pall. The music-hall star clearly strains for laughs in this sorry tale, as his voluble Irish laundress takes charge of a girls' school and fights off a cartel of railway developers. A tedious subplot has Riley's daughter (played as ever by Lucan's wife, Kitty McShane) regaining her place in the school choir in a shameless bid to eat up a few minutes and spare the comic blushes. Alastair Sim would show how it should be done four years later, in The Belles of St Trinian's.
