Drama, based on a true story, starring James Woods and Jane Alexander. North Vietnam, 1965: US Navy pilot Jim Stockdale, now a PoW, is subjected to mental and physical torture by his captors. Meanwhile, back in California, his wife Sybil begins a relentless quest for news of her husband when she hears that his plane has been shot down.
James Woods, a master at repressed emotion, is generally careful to keep his intensity in check and his performances within the bounds of the believable. Here, as a US Navy pilot who is being held and tortured by the Vietnamese, he adds to his list of such expressive roles, yet is ill-served by Paul Aaron, whose direction is alternately long-winded and flat.
