Review

A star rating of 3 out of 5.

After films like Gentleman Jim and They Died with Their Boots On, director Raoul Walsh and ageing stud Errol Flynn renewed their parnership in this run-of-the-mill Warner Bros western, not even considered worthy of shooting in colour. Still, movie fans today will find much to enjoy, since the film shows the Hollywood system in fine fettle. Flynn's the former soldier-turned-gambler who'll stop at nothing to win the affection of sexy - but married - Ann Sheridan. The pair strike erotic sparks off one another and there's novelty value in the fact that the plot is a western version of the Old Testament tale of David and Bathsheba. Look for the clues in the performance of Thomas Mitchell as Flynn's bibulous attorney.
