Diane is happily married. But, one day while travelling, she meets a dashing architect. With some relief, she parts ways with him at the airport, her resistance to his alluring manner having been tested. She later discovers that she has his gloves, so she returns them in person, only to end up in bed with the man, and later falling in love. She now faces the toughest decision of her life.
Lee Remick is torn between husband Joseph Bologna and George Peppard, the divorced architect she meets at an airport and has an affair with. The talented Remick is wasted in this stereotypical role, and viewers may not find her choice between Bologna and Peppard particularly enviable either. Director Delbert Mann - who won an Oscar for his first film, Marty, in 1955 - keeps a thin layer of crustiness over the slush. The movie was inspired by a treacly 1970s ballad.
