Review

A star rating of 3 out of 5.

This inventive thriller directed by Anthony Asquith is one of Dirk Bogarde's earlier pictures. Jean Kent co-stars as a fortune teller whose death leads to a serious case of flashback syndrome during which we try to spot her killer. Kent has a juicy role here, since all her acquaintances have a different view of her ranging from kindly neighbour to drunken bitch. As the boyfriend, Bogarde looks astonishingly young, and, ten years later, he teamed up with Asquith again to play TE Lawrence in a project that came within a hair's breadth of being made.
