Review

A star rating of 3 out of 5.

A psychiatrist is found shot dead. Did he kill himself or is something sinister going on? This psychological thriller, directed by Charles Crichton, is never as clever as it thinks it is, though the cast is outstanding: Richard Attenborough, Jack Hawkins, Diane Cilento, Rachel Kempson and Judi Dench all contribute some telling scenes. But the star of the show, as one of the dead shrink's patients trying to establish the truth, is Stephen Boyd, an Irish actor who, notwithstanding a riveting performance as Messala in Ben-Hur, never quite made it to the top.
