An utterly charming musical from MGM's greatest period, though it may be a little overlong and twee for today's tastes. Sweet Jane Powell plays the title role, but Richard Thorpe's film also gives the young and oh-so-beautiful Elizabeth Taylor a chance to shine. Wallace Beery is top-billed, but he was near the end of his life and Technicolor wasn't kind to him. Still, at least he gets to perform with Carmen Miranda. The song It's a Most Unusual Day was a huge hit.
