Review

A star rating of 3 out of 5.

This suspense melodrama, written by Mel Dinelli from a radio play by Maurice Zimm, was one of the last films John Sturges directed before he established his reputation with Escape from Fort Bravo. During a camping vacation on a remote Mexican beach, husband and father Barry Sullivan is pinioned in the water by a fallen timber. With just four hours before the tide comes in, wife Barbara Stanwyck drives off to find assistance. Unfortunately, she runs into fleeing killer Ralph Meeker. Despite its slender running time, credibility flies out the window about halfway through. Until then, however, this is a taut and exciting little movie, with Stanwyck gutsy, subtle and very physical throughout.
