He Knows You're Alone

Recycling an idea from the Bela Lugosi shocker The Corpse Vanishes in 1942, this predictably heavy-handed slasher movie has a killer stalking brides-to-be, terrorising them with increasingly ugly games of cat-and-mouse. No real surprises here, unless you count the fact that the director Armand Mastroianni is the late Marcello's cousin, and a young Tom Hanks makes his film acting debut. Hanks paid sly homage to this career step in his feature-directing debut That Thing You Do! by insisting on filming at the exact same Staten Island locations used here.
