Review

A star rating of 1 out of 5.

Even ardent fans of the "artist formerly known as Prince" will scoff at this monumentally pretentious ego trip, in which His Purpleness plays a piano-playing gigolo on the French Riviera, wooing rich Kristin Scott Thomas against her father's wishes. In a gobsmacking black-and-white exercise in narcissistic posturing, Prince endlessly compares wardrobes with Jerome Benton, makes love on a bed of rose petals, and finally dies (thank god!). The soundtrack - which is among the star's best work - is reduced to the level of background music. It's a vanity venture, not even worth watching for kitsch value.
