The collapse of the Soviet bloc deprived Hollywood of ready-made villains for its spy movies, but director Anthony Hickox revisits those Cold War rivalries in this serviceable thriller. Armand Assante plays the former CIA operative who is forced to confront the man responsible for his wife's death as he keeps a former KGB bigwig out of the clutches of the CIA and the Russian mafia. Unfortunately, Assante's background, as a handler who helped dissidents defect to the West, proves more intriguing than his present occupation as a maverick for hire. But his relationship with Barna Illyés is suitable spikey, and Hickox keeps the action moving.
