Extraterrestrial

The morning after a one-night-stand is the seemingly prosaic start for this low-fi sci-fi yarn from Timecrimes director Nacho Vigalondo. However, when Julio (Julian Villagrán) and Julia (Michelle Jenner) wake up from their nocturnal revels, it's to a deserted city, a huge flying saucer in the sky and an alien invasion looming. However, don't expect incendiary Independence Day-style bombast here; the "action" is pretty much restricted to Julia's apartment, as the couple's awkwardly burgeoning relationship is forced to contend with the arrival of Julia's on-off boyfriend and irksome interference from a nosy next-door neighbour. It's light-hearted stuff with amusing off-the-wall moments that will probably appeal to romantic comedy lovers but underwhelm hardcore sci-fi fans. Nevertheless, it's a charming curiosity that has definite entertainment value.
