Another Pair of Aces: Three of a Kind

Kris Kristofferson and Willie Nelson, both crusty, charming mavericks in real life, are ideally cast here; in fact, the sparks produced by their on-screen relationship are the film's only source of life. This sequel to Pair of Aces again takes its cue from 48 HRS, with Kristofferson's Texas ranger joining forces with Nelson's safecracker to prove a friend (Rip Torn) innocent of murder. This contemporary western ambles along in its wearisome, obvious way, relaxed in the knowledge that it has two charismatic players to offset the predictability.
