Review
The second of the Andy Hardy films, with Lewis Stone taking over the role of Mickey Rooney's dad from Lionel Barrymore who played the role in the first film, A Family Affair. Adored by studio boss Louis B Mayer, a Jewish émigré who wished to extol the virtues of small-town American life and childhood and somehow compensate for his own traumatic upbringing in pogrom-ridden Europe, the films struck a chord with American audiences on the brink of war themselves. If A Family Affair was a try-out, this was the full dress rehearsal for a series that spawned 14 more movies between 1938 and 1958.
