Review

A star rating of 2 out of 5.

Despite taking its title from Roger Corman's 1956 B-movie about radiation-induced mutants, this TV remake is most indebted to Invasion of the Body Snatchers. No one believes small-town youngster Bobby Edner's claims that a spate of recent murders are the work of his biological father, who he believes is an extraterrestrial. Meanwhile the boy's adoptive father (Randy Quaid) is behaving suspiciously, but by the time school therapist Nastassja Kinski (the film's designated outsider) gets to the truth, the alien invasion is already well under way. The underlying message that US society has become dangerously insular is well worth making, but it is obscured by predictable plotting and one-dimensional stereotypes.
