The makers of TV movies have hardly any qualms about sensationalising real-life horror and exploiting emotional trauma. This is one of the most painful examples, in which an estranged father (played by John Glover) sets fire to his six-year-old son (Matthew Lawrence) who, disfigured, has to come to terms with his life and the suffering of his mother (Bernadette Peters). The admirable performances do transcend the opportunism of the idea.
