Set along the Hispano-Portuguese border, Antonio Hernández's road thriller gets off to an arresting start, with Sergi Lopez's video salesman and Carmen Maura's runaway wife instantly developing a rapport that's every bit as intriguing as her seemingly implausible tale of financial misdeeds and callous assassinations. But as various members of her family (each one a sly Mafia caricature) catch up with them and mischievously muddy the water, the tension seeps away to be replaced by a more sinister tone, as the ruthless Federico Luppi begins exacting his revenge for Maura's affair with his qualm-riddled business partner. Diverting but underdeveloped.
