Bram Stoker's immortal neck-feaster heads to 19th-century Paris in this visually stunning adaptation of the classic novel that falls short in other areas. Caleb Landry Jones stars as the titular count, in search of his princess paramour, who met a grisly death 400 years earlier. He believes he's found her reincarnated soul in society girl Mina (Zoë Bleu). After imprisoning her in his castle, Dracula sets out to capture her heart again via enthusiastic bloodlust. The costumes and set design are gorgeous, and director Luc Besson (Lucy) choreographs a bravura battle scene in the opening 20 minutes. However, his script is stodgy, and the prominent theme of his reworked story is romance rather than horror. Meanwhile, the main players are less than impressive. Jones is a one-note goth-boy pinup, while the performances of Bleu and Matilda De Angelis as Mina's best friend are borderline amateurish. Only Christoph Waltz makes a mark as an unnamed priest (in place of the original book's nemesis Professor Van Helsing), representing the church's fear of vampires.
