Review

A star rating of 2 out of 5.

Anyone who's been to university will recognise most of the situations in Darren Paul Fisher's debut. But observational comedy means more than merely stringing together a few truisms in a "year-in-the-life" format, as Amy Heckerling discovered with the equally clumsy Loser. The viewer needs something more to hang on to than an endless round of naff parties, transient romances and other cynically recalled uni memories. Fisher is to be applauded for bringing this digital video offering in for £30,000. But some juvenile dialogue and the drama club performances (notably Johnny Ball's cameo) deserve censure for settling, at best, for mediocrity.
