Review

A star rating of 2 out of 5.

A tacky imitation of Gremlins from executive producer Charles Band, the self-styled B-movie king of 1980s schlock and cheap straight-to-video horror. Under the spell of his Satanist father, Peter Liapis invokes a black magic ritual in the family mansion and conjures up midget demons from another dimension which go on a teen-killing spree. The self-mocking tone and grisly gore may be emblematic of the sleaze-and-slash 1980s but the ghoulies themselves - when they finally appear - look like a throwback to the rubber puppet monsters of the 1950s. Low-grade trash with a cult cast, featuring singer Michael Des Barres and David Lynch regular Jack Nance (Wild at Heart, Lost Highway).
