Comedy starring Michel Serrault as a dispirited manufacturer of sanitary ware, who's at the mercy of disgruntled employees and his grasping family. Review

A star rating of 3 out of 5.

Etienne Chatiliez is no stranger to the themes of belonging and dislocation, but here he seems less interested in astute social observations than in relating a simple story. Michel Serrault plays the toilet manufacturer who seizes the opportunity presented by a case of mistaken identity to abandon his workshy employees and grasping wife, Sabine Azéma, to enjoy a rural idyll with Carmen Maura. It's an amiable picture, but it would have benefited from more satire and black comedy, not to mention a more enlightened view of women.
