Review

A star rating of 2 out of 5.

Ever since their first film together Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau have been the odd couple of the movies, as inseparable as Laurel and Hardy. But this farce marks the low point in their chalk-and-cheese collaboration, with slapstick usurping the biting wit of previous productions. Matthau is a hitman who's hampered in his job by a suicide-bent Lemmon, a death wish all to himself. Adapted from the funnier French comedy, A Pain in the A ... , its jokes are ill-timed and the mutual admiration society of its two stars becomes tedious.
