A wealthy amnesiac begins to suspect that his devoted wife is not really his wife and that he is not the man people keep telling him he is.
Diabolically dubbed, more like. This excellent Gallic thriller, the last film made by master director Julien Duvivier (Pépé le Moko), was distributed worldwide in a version that saddled handsome Alain Delon and sexy Senta Berger with bland American accents, a poor decision that seriously affects the credibility of their characters. Not that it really matters, for this is one of those glossy French thrillers where the goodies are good-looking, the baddies are slimy and all the plot twists unravel by the end. Jolly entertaining it is, too, though perhaps it's best to remember the redoubtable Duvivier by his earlier works.
