Romantic drama starring Akshaye Khanna and Aishwarya Rai. A young man leaves his Delhi home and moves to the United States to make a better life for himself and his family. In New York he meets a woman and falls in love, but his single-minded determination to succeed looks set to spoil their happiness.
Bollywood star Rishi Kapoor piles on the melodrama in his convoluted but entertaining directorial debut. An exaggerated "grass is always greener" tale, it takes a particularly negative view of the United States, as Akshaye Khanna's dissatisfied graduate quits Delhi to make his fortune in a morally corrupt and crime-riddled New York. Clichés, caricatures and a seriously OTT score help hammer home Kapoor's simplistic condemnation of capitalist culture and the erosion of traditional Indian values; leaving naive Khanna and charming love interest Aishwarya Rai to learn their many lessons in the most unsubtle way possible. Nonetheless, this overblown style does have its benefits: adding emotional weight to a cracking plot twist that builds to a rewarding climax.
