MGM wheeled out a lot of stars for this flying yarn - two Barrymores, Clark Gable, Robert Montgomery and two fine leading ladies, Myrna Loy and Helen Hayes. The story is about the setting up of a company that delivers mail across the high Andes. In the air, it's all turbulence, fog and mountain peaks; on the ground, it's all macho posturing and romantic clinches. The box-office success of the movie spawned a whole series of imitators, including RKO's Flight from Glory and, best of all, Howard Hawks's Only Angels Have Wings.
