Review

A star rating of 3 out of 5.

The Peruvian film collective Grupo Chaski had already explored the topic of urban poverty in the stark docudrama, Gregorio. Group directors Fernando Espinoza and Alejandro Legaspi returned to the theme with this naturalistic, but often warm and amusing, tale, in which a young girl, Rosa Isabel Morfino, runs away from home to escape her abusive stepfather, Guillermo Esqueche, only to encounter the even more viciously exploitative Julio Vega, when she disguises herself as a boy in order to join the band of Lima street musicians that he manages.
