Review

A star rating of 2 out of 5.

Desperate for a hit after several disappointing outings, Laurel and Hardy revamped the 1933 programme filler Arizona to Broadway, with Ollie posing as a southern millionaire and Stan as a rich maiden aunt to help Vivian Blaine, whose mother has been swindled in a land deal. Even their devoted fans will admit that, for the most part, this is pretty feeble stuff, with the demands of the flimsy story getting in the way of the comedy. But there are bright spots, such as the pair working as a two-man orchestra in the middle of the desert, Ollie's southern blustering and newcomer Blaine's three musical numbers.
