Review

A star rating of 3 out of 5.

Rarely has boredom been so engagingly presented on screen as in this low-budget Mexican comedy. Adolescent friends Moko (Diego Cataño) and Flama (Daniel Miranda) are home alone and set for a perfect Sunday of video games, comic-book porn and Coca-Cola until they are interrupted by 16-year-old neighbour Rita (Danny Perea), who demands to use the oven. Then impoverished pizza delivery man Ulises (Enrique Arreola) arrives - 11 seconds late so they refuse to pay him - and won't leave the high-rise apartment without his money. As the day unfolds, the teenagers are forced to confront the domestic dysfunction and sexual ambiguity that blight their own lives, as well as the economic crises gripping their country. But director Fernando Eimbcke never forces the issues and subtly laces the standoff with moments of wry wit and touching humanity.
