The Saint in Palm Springs

George Sanders bade farewell to the role of Simon Templar after this, his fifth outing as Leslie Charteris's suave troubleshooter. There's a pronounced end-of-term feel to the story, in which Sanders crosses swords with a gang intent on preventing him from delivering some rare stamps to their rightful owner. It's not as dull as Sanders's weary expression would have you believe, with director Jack Hively (handling his third Templar adventure) keeping the action brisk, and there is a surprisingly high body count for what was supposed to be a pretty light-hearted series.
